Looking for something fun to do on Monday night? Then you need to book tickets for the magic show at The Cape Town Magic Club. This season of shows runs until 03 October on Monday nights only with two seatings – 7pm & 9pm. The 50 seater theatre is located in the basement of the Cape Town Club (in Queen Victoria street) which is a Sir Herbert Baker building and sets the perfect scene for the evening.
We were greeted in the foyer of the Cape Town Club by two obliging flapper girls who handed us our ticket and seat number and then showed us downstairs to the basement. The basement has been converted into an elegant bar and lounge, where we relaxed and had a glass of wine, while we waited to be led into the theatre.
The theatre was filled with smoke when we entered, creating an eerie, yet exciting feeling, everyone anxious about what was to come. Our host for the evening was the Magic Club producer and magician Marcel Oudejans, the feature act was Ryan Jones and the headline act was Steve Sandomierski. Every week they try to alternate and add magicians so that no two shows are the same.
Each magician performed a variety of acts, from card tricks to razor blade swallowing to “mind control”. We were thoroughly entertained from start to finish, both by the incredible magic displayed and the often side-splitting humour. (please note this is more of an adult nature, with no under 13’s allowed). We left feeling inspired, entertained and thinking about who we could share the experience with again. You also have the opportunity to share a drink and a chat with the magicians after the show in the basement bar. Monday night entertainment has reached new heights!
Tickets cost R150 and can be bought online via The Cape Town Magic Club’s website. Why not make the most of the evening and book dinner at one of Cape Towns many restaurants.
