Escape to Die Laaitjie for a little piece of heaven

Die Laaitjie

The perfect place for a weekend of peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of city living. Only 2 hours drive from Cape Town, Die Laaitjie is set between the mountains in a valley with a river flowing through it, gorgeous views in all directions, country living and very limited cellphone reception (which is just great!).

We were invited to Die Laaitjie for a birthday weekend getaway with another 20 friends, so we had the entire place to ourselves (The main house and all 3 cottages). The farm is secluded and you feel like you are away from everything, yet you are only 7 kilometres from the centre of Robertson, at the end of a scenic gravel road.

The Main House
The main house is very luxurious with its own swimming pool overlooking a dam and rolling mountains.  It has all the little extras you need – a dishwasher, sound system with docking station, plenty of fridge and freezer space, an ice machine, underfloor heating in the bathrooms, free standing baths, indoor fireplaces, outdoor braai area with more amazing views of the mountains. The main house has 4 bedrooms and sleeps 8 people comfortably. This is where we all got together in the evenings, the spaces are just perfect for a big group of people.

The Cottages
The 3 cottages are a little distance away from the main house and are all very similar, all with 2 bedrooms, indoor fireplace, outdoor showers, large stoep with outdoor braai and gorgeous views of the mountains. We spent our afternoons lazing in the sun on our stoeps, listening to the birds and admiring the breathtaking views.

The mountains surrounding the farm are filled with hiking trails, we did a lovely little hike to the waterfall, which took us about 55 minutes (one way), the last 20 minutes you will spend climbing over rocks in a ravine, up the river towards the waterfall, totally worth all the effort. There is also a quick 15-minute walk to the rock pools which as absolutely awesome, with clear water and deep pools for swimming on hot summer days. Pack a picnic lunch and head to the rock pools!

We all had the most relaxing weekend at this special place, and are already planning our return. Die Laaitjie is the perfect place for a break from the city life, where you can spend hours reading your book, lazing around the pool, hiking up the mountains and ravines, splashing and swimming in the rock pools, long lazy afternoons and braais under the stars.

Book your stay here, for a fabulous getaway.
