Spur of the moment getaways are the best! We woke up on Monday morning in Cape Town and it was overcast and windy. So we decided to pack our bags and head to Riebeek Kasteel for the night.
After a little bit of searching on the internet we came across Villa Augusta, a self-catering, 10 sleeper house in Riebeek Kasteel, with a swimming pool and views, what more does one need!?
Riebeek Kasteel is a small town 87km from Cape Town, known for its wine, wheat and olives. Many artists have moved to this quaint town, attracted by the picturesque surroundings. Take a stroll around the town centre (a quick 5 minute walk from Villa Augusta), pop into some of the galleries, craft and gift shops, have a G&T at the Royal Hotel or a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants. There are also some great wine farms in the area, so be sure to check those out too!
Moira, our friendly host at Villa Augusta met us at the house and showed us around. We were the only people checked in for the night, which meant we had the whole place to ourselves. The house is on the edge of the town on a bit of a hill with views of the mountains and vineyards.
The living area is large and open plan, with a lovely big kitchen, equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine and big gas stove with electric oven. This looks out over the stoep and swimming pool (which has a real Mediterranean feel as it’s all painted white). In the dining room area is an indoor braai for cold nights, the living room has a TV with full DSTV for those not wanting to miss out on anything. And for those wanting to tweet, Instagram or just keep in touch with the world, there is free wifi.
The house has 3 bedrooms with king size beds, 1 on the ground floor, 2 on the first floor, as well as a loft area that has 3 divisions and sleeps another 4 people. There are 3 bathrooms, one of them being en-suite. The first floor also has a small living area as well as a balcony overlooking the valley (perfect spot to watch the sunset or drink your morning coffee)
The outside area is perfect for entertaining, with views of the valley over rows of citrus and olive trees in the garden. The swimming pool is idyllic! Crystal clear blue water, with loungers on the stoep so you can soak up the sun. There is also a round outdoor braai, right next to the stoep, where everyone can sit around the fire with a glass of wine and enjoy the peace and quiet.
We had a great stay here and our host Moira was very accommodating, friendly and helpful.
