In just under 2 hours drive from Sydney city centre, you will find the small but picturesque town of Berrima. Berrima is located in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia and has a population of just 400 people.
We left Sydney at 10am and 2 hours later we felt like we were miles away from the busy city. The historic town of Berrima was established in the 1830s and is now widely recognised as the best-preserved example of a Georgian village on the Australian mainland. This was mainly due to the fact that in 1867 a railway line was built that bypassed Berrima and for the next 100 years, there was little to no development in this village.
Berrima has many significant buildings, like Harpers Mansion with its pretty gardens and maze, the Courthouse with its giant disproportioned pillars and a fully functioning jail/goal.

On your way home, make sure you pop into Joadja Winery, the oldest vineyard and winery in the Southern Highlands. A cute rustic style tasting room, where you will be served by the very friendly new owners.
