Hogsback, land of fairies and hobbits

Hogsback, land of the fairies, hobbits, butterflies and pure relaxation, a hidden gem nestled between the Amathole mountains in the Eastern Cape. After a beautiful drive through a dense forest up a winding pass we arrived at Hogsback, a sleepy hollow filled with creatives, hippies and those just trying to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. You will feel lost in time in this enchanted forest escape and will be spoilt for choice when it come to hikes and walks, places to eat and things to do and see.

Visting Addo & Tipi Bush Camp

We had never been to Addo Elephant Park, the weather looked clear and we wanted to do a game drive before we left South Africa, so this was the perfect opportunity. Unfortunately, we had left booking accommodation far too late and everything in Addo Elephant park was fully booked, so we found the next best thing (if not better). The Tipi Bush Camp, just 10 minutes drive from Addo main gate.

December Roundup: What we did last month

We have been very quiet on the blog this December, clearly been having too much fun. December was quite a busy month for us, it was also our first month of being “homeless” although our family and friends have taken great care of us. Here’s what we got up to: Sunset drinks and snacks on…

A night in Matjiesfontein

Matjiesfontein is a tiny town on the N1, 236km from Cape Town. When you visit Matjiesfontein, you will feel like you have stepped back in time. This tiny town has so much history!

A summers day at Villa Augusta, Riebeek Kasteel

Riebeek Kasteel is a small town 87km from Cape Town, known for its wine, wheat and olives. Many artists have moved to this quaint town, attracted by the picturesque surroundings. Take a stroll around the town centre (a quick 5 minute walk from Villa Augusta), pop into some of the galleries, craft and gift shops, have a G&T at the Royal Hotel or a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants. There are also some great wine farms in the area, so be sure to check those out too!

November roundup: What we did last month

November! What a month! Packing up our apartment, getting everything sorted for our move, whilst still trying to have some fun and do work in between. We have also finally booked our flights and are leaving for Australia at the beginning of February. So this gives us December and January free to explore and spend…

October roundup: What we did last month

Romantic weekend in Platbos Forest

Looking for a romantic cabin in the woods, off the grid, where the only noises you will hear is that of chirping birds? Then look no further than Platbos Forest! There are 3 different glamping accommodation options (which all have the option of bringing your own tent and setting up camp for more people) as well as a forest camp.

Sneak away to Kogelberg Nature Reserve

Considered to be the most beautiful of Cape Nature’s reserves, Kogelberg has a diverse variety of mountain Fynbos and is a world-renowned World Heritage Site. And we can now completely agree with this statement! We got to experience some of the most beautiful Fynbos, visiting during Spring definitely added to the experience as everywhere you looked, the flowers were in full bloom.

What should you pack for a day hike?

When we go hiking on the mountain in Cape Town, we always pack a day pack with a few essential items. We have come up with this list along the years so that we are now prepared for almost anything  🙂 Water/hydration – this is probably the most important thing to pack, especially in hot…

Escape to Die Laaitjie for a little piece of heaven

The perfect place for a weekend of peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of city living. Only 2 hours drive from Cape Town, Die Laaitjie is set between the mountains in a valley with a river flowing through it, gorgeous views in all directions, country living and very limited cellphone reception (which is just great!).
