Birthdays are a big thing for me (the blonde) I like to go all out and extend the celebrations for as long as I possibly can. So when I realised Gary’s (the beard) birthday was fast approaching, I quickly booked a house for us and some family in the Kangaroo Valley, which is about 2,5 hours South of Sydney.
We set off on Friday afternoon with a fully loaded car and began our drive to the Kangaroo Valley. Once you are off the highway the road takes you through farmlands, down a winding pass through a rain forest which then opens up to a breathtaking view of the valley and mountains.
I found an amazing house on Airbnb called Moosewood. The property is located on 40 hectares of farm and bushland with views of the valley and mountains. The house is based on a traditional barn design, it is an old shed that has been converted into a 4 bedroom house with open plan dining, kitchen and living room. The house is light and airy, yet warm enough and cosy on chilly winter nights. The design of the house is cleverly thought out and it has been tastefully decorated with great attention to detail. (We could have stayed forever!)
The bedrooms are all individually decorated with great views, heaters, storage, comfy beds and snuggly, cosy linen. There is one bathroom with a shower and a spare toilet in the laundry room. I loved the kitchen design and the finishes, the kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, Nespresso machine and milk frother, loads of crockery, cutlery and serving dishes – everything you need when catering for a large group of people.
The living area has a massive comfy L-shaped couch with a large TV, (equipped with Apple TV and Nintendo) an indoor fireplace and a foosball table and table tennis. There is also a great sound system with speakers on the patio and living area. The bookcase in the living room has loads of books and a wide variety of games to keep you entertained.
Outside on the patio is a fire pit, comfy seating and a gas BBQ which overlooks the valley, farmlands (which are generally filled with Kangaroos) and mountains. The garden has lush green lawn and a couple of trees for some summer shade.
We took a drive into the Kangaroo Valley town (which is about a 10 – 15 minutes drive from the house) on the Saturday morning. It’s a very quaint town with old world charm, it has some great coffee shops, gift shops, a local pub (which also has a bottle shop) and a delicious pie shop. This is also where you would get any supplies you might need whilst staying at Moosewood.
We spent our evenings at Moosewood around the fire pit, chatting whilst gazing up at the stars with a glass of wine in hand. On Saturday night (the beards actual birthday) things got a bit more festive…
We all had a fabulous weekend and would highly recommend staying here if you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of city living.
